CLINICAL NEUROSCIENCE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

An exciting opportunity exists for a neuroscientist who wishes to
develop his or her career by working in a clinical environment. The
Neurology Research Group, Department of Medicine, seeks to appoint a
research fellow to conduct studies of novel techniques to promote
recovery of motor function following stroke. This Fellowship is a level
1 position available for 24 months in the first instance.

The Fellow will join a multidisciplinary team involved in the
development of novel techniques for enhancing neural plasticity and
promoting recovery of motor function following stroke. He or she will
also develop an existing algorithm for predicting an individual's
potential for motor recovery based on advanced neurophysiological and
imaging assessments. The main tasks will be investigation of the
structural and functional integrity of the corticospinal system in
people with stroke, and cortical plasticity in recovery of motor
function. Depending on the background of the successful candidate,
additional training in neurophysiological and imaging techniques will be
provided.

The candidate must have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, with
at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The
role will suit candidates with previous experience in human
neurophysiology, particularly transcranial magnetic stimulation and/or
magnetic resonance imaging. Previous experience working with a clinical
population would be an advantage.

This position would suit someone who is self-motivated, well organized,
able to multi-task, reliable and has initiative. The candidate must
have excellent communication and people skills and be able to work both
independently and as part of a team.
