We currently have a vacancy for a Research Assistant in our School of Health Sciences, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, UK.

Research Assistant 0.8FTE
A community based exercise programme for adolescents with cerebral palsy.
Grade 6 28,139 pro rata, Fixed Term for 12 Months


This one year post (80% FTE (4 days per week) ) is funded by 'La Fondation Mortrice', a charity based in France which supports applied or technological research, allowing progress in the understanding, preventing, caring, therapy and rehabilitation for persons with Cerebral Palsy. The researcher will be responsible for the application for ethical approval, participant recruitment, data collection, data processing and analysis. The research assistant will be working under the supervision of Dr Marietta van der Linden and Professor Tom Mercer from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and in close collaboration with Dr Alison Richardson at the Anderson Gait Analysis Laboratory, Astley Ainsley Hospital Edinburgh, and Mr James Robb at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh.

The post holder is required to have a first degree in Physiotherapy, Exercise Sciences or a very closely related degree and should be educated to at least MSc level.
Previous experience of collecting and analysing human movement performance data as well as a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and SPSS or other statistics software, are also essential skills for this position..
Previous experience with three dimensional motion analysis and exercise physiology related outcomes such as isometric strength testing would be highly desirable, as well as a working knowledge of Matlab or Vicon Body Builder and publications in peer-reviewed journals

The post holder is expected to have good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Previous working experience with children with Cerebral Palsy would advantageous.
