UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND – UNDER ARMOUR POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and Under Armour (UA) are seeking highly motivated individuals to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship being jointly supported by the UMD Department of Kinesiology’s Neuromechanics Laboratory and UA’s Innovation Team. The fellowship requires sharing time between the University of Maryland in College Park, MD and Under Armour headquarters in Baltimore, MD. The position involves testing and developing materials and products related to running footwear. The successful candidate will participate in research experiments that identify biomechanical and physiological effects of manipulating shoewear design that will lead to improvements in product safety and performance. The position is available starting immediately and lasting for 2 years with the second year renewal dependent on productivity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Collaborate with the Under Armour Innovation and Footwear team on product development, using scientific knowledge and research skills in the field of biomechanics
b. Conduct experiments with appropriate methodology, collect and analyze data carefully, and maintain well-organized records and research notes
c. Effectively contribute to ongoing research and development projects
d. Develop internal and external collaborations in support of research initiatives and seek for external funding
e. Present and publish pertinent scientific findings to internal staff as well as the national and international scientific communities

Preferred Qualifications:
a. PhD in biomechanics, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, bioengineering or related field
b. Extensive experiences with biomechanical research tools used in locomotion studies such as passive marker motion capture systems (i.e., Vicon), image-based high-speed cameras, electromyography, 3-D force plates/sensors, etc.
c. Demonstrated proficiency in computer programming (Matlab, LabView, C++, etc.)
d. Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and with a multidisciplinary team
e. A proven high level of organizational and communication, both written and oral, skills, with a track record of both peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations
f. Strong interest in sports product research and development

Salary:
Commensurate with experience.
