View Full Version : Medical Device Ideas for Middle and High School Students

08-06-2010, 01:17 AM

Next April I will be hosting a science fair where middle and high school
students will display projects related to (i) ideas for medical devices,
(ii) novel materials, and (iii) modeling and simulation. In about 6
weeks' time we will be launching a website with resources for teachers
and students . . . and what I'm looking for are ideas for student
projects. Anyone with ideas is encouraged to send them to

Examples of suitable projects include:

1. Comparison of suture materials

2. Athletic gear for reducing injury risk (due to impact loads for

3. Multifunctional surgical instruments

4. Kinematic models of joints (e.g., modeling the knee as a 4-bar

5. Ergonomic backpacks

The event will be hosted in Akron's National Inventors' Hall of Fame
(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Inventors_Hall_of_Fame ), and
so I'm looking for projects that stimulate students in the age range of
12 - 18 years.

As a footnote . . . I believe this may be my first posting to Biomch-L
since accepting a new position in Akron . . . please note my old
Cleveland email address is no longer valid!
