Research Fellow in Biomechanics/Biomedical Engineering: Development of Novel Simulation Systems

This new post doctoral research position is being funded by WELMEC - a Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering funded by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC. You will work in the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE) within the School of Mechanical Engineering on this exciting new project as part of a multidisciplinary team investigating medical engineering solutions for the ageing population and specifically on developing tools for the successful simulation of contemporary and novel medical devices and regenerative therapies under physiological conditions. The project involves the investigation of human movement relevant to the spine, the characterisation of disease progression and the development of novel in-situ monitoring of biomechanical performance of constructs within the simulator.

You will have, or expect to obtain shortly, a PhD in Bioengineering or Biomechanics. You will also have experience of project management and working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is a willingness to work flexibly and travel to collaborating institutes. The position is available from 1st September 2010.

The post is available for a fixed term period of 42 months.
