Director position: To provide visionary academic leadership for the School of Engineering in a state university known for excellence in teaching. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an engineering or related discipline, with progressively responsible work experience in engineering, higher education, and academic administration. The selected candidate must have the experience and accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor in the School of Engineering. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of the School of Engineering.

The Director is the chief academic and administrative head responsible for the day-to-day operations of the School of Engineering. The Director works closely with the Engineering Program Chairs and with the Dean of the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing. Duties include managing strategic planning and assessment, coordinating budget planning and management, schedule development, coordinating faculty and staff development and evaluation, and liaison with members of the University community in areas of student recruitment and retention, advising, scholarship programs, and academic program development and coordination.

The School of Engineering at GVSU offers ABET accredited BSE programs with a mandatory co-op education experience and MSE programs. The applicant must support our strong laboratory based teaching approach, our industry and community partnerships, and emerging areas in biomedical, nano-technology, and energy. Engineering enrollment, currently at approximately 700 students, has seen consistent growth that is expected to continue. Facilities include approximately 82,000 sq. ft. of contemporary student-oriented laboratory, collaboration, and classroom space.

The anticipated start date is July 1, 2011.
