Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cardiovascular Imaging and Biomechanics

A Postdoctoral Research Scientist with strong experimental experience and interest in the areas of ultrasound elasticity imaging and/or biomechanics and constitutive modeling are sought to join the Department of Bioengineering and Cardiovascular Institute (Department of Medicine) at the University of Pittsburgh.

We are involved development and implementation of novel methods for imaging the right ventricle, including 3D ultrasound elasticity imaging, computational biomechanics of right ventricular function, all with the goal to understand right heart mechanics in-vivo.

The position will be jointly mentored by Michael Sacks, PhD, W.K. Whiteford Professor of Bioengineering, Kang Kim, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Bioengineering, and Marc A. Simon, MD, MS, Assistant Professor of Medicine. Work will take place in both the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics (CUMIT, Dr. Flordeliza Villanueva, director) housed at the Cardiovascular Institute and the Engineered Tissue Mechanics and Mechanobiology Laboratory(ETM2L, Dr. Sacks, director) of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (http://www.mirm.pitt.edu/) at the University of Pittsburgh. CUMIT is engaged and interested in both basic sciences and applied/translational investigations with a broad range of biomedical applications. CUMIT particularly emphasizes development of multidisciplinary and novel approaches to address relevant biomedical questions in cardiac and cardiovascular applications. ETM2L is focused on the characterization and modeling of structure-function-biomechanics of soft tissues, with an emphasis on cardiovascular applications. A particular strength and focus of the work will be to directly translate findings to the bedside via the academic clinical cardiology section (Dr. Simon) on campus with CUMIT and ETM2L.

For the position, applicants should have completed a PhD or MD/PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or AppliedPhysics with a strong experimental background and experience in the research areas of ultrasound imaging and/or biomechanics.

Highly motivated candidates with experimental background, a strong academic and publication record, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a strong commitment are invited to apply. Applicants will be expected to integrate into CUMIT and ETM2L comprised of faculties, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, and technicians being able to take advantages of the research community with both exceptionally strong specialized and diverse expertise at the University of Pittsburgh.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, their CV, and the names and contact information of three references electronically to the email address given below.
