FACULTY POSITION BIOMECHANICS/REHABILITATION ROBOTICS
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in biomechanics/rehabilitation robotics at the Assistant Professor level. This position is part of a cluster of four positions in Rehabilitation Robotics that will be filled in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Kinesiology. Rehabilitation Robotics is the underlying science and/or development of robotic devices for improving function or mobility of individuals with physical disabilities. It includes the design and evaluation of powered devices for movement therapy (e.g. after a stroke or spinal cord injury) as well as robotic devices for chronically assisting human function (e.g. powered prosthetics and orthotics). The four faculty positions in the cluster are designed to provide complementary skills and to facilitate a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment that will accelerate the development, testing, and effective utilization of such devices. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and will contribute proactively to teaching and to the diversity of the academic community. All hires in the Rehabilitation Robotics cluster are expected to collaborate with each other and with other faculty.

Applicants must have completed a doctorate and postdoctoral training is expected. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Responsibilities of the position include developing a strong research program and teaching undergraduate courses in human movement biomechanics and graduate courses in the rehabilitation robotics. The individual will be expected to acquire federal funding for research and to contribute to interdisciplinary research activities in the School of Kinesiology.

The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan is one of 19 degree-granting academic units on the Ann Arbor campus. Detailed information on the School of Kinesiology, including its faculty, laboratories and instructional programs, is available at the following website: http://www.kines.umich.edu/.

Applications will be be reviewed upon receipt and on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
