Dear subscribers,

Some reactions to the debate on 'junk' mail:

1. I admit I overreacted when I suggested to 'mail bomb' the
offender. This was not really the intention. But I usually
include the full original message in a complaint.

2. It is possible to block E-mail messages from certain sources.
I will definitely do so, if the same person does it again. But,
as David Pickles said, it is usually a one-time thing.

3. It is possible to restrict posting privilege to registered
subscribers. This could cause some technical problems, because
many E-mail "From:" addresses have changed since they first
subscribed. You don't notice this, because mail to your old
address is automatically forwarded. Many postings would be
rejected, and you would have to complain to me, I would have to
manually change your subscription, and then you could post. Some
subscribers don't even have a stable "From:" in their E-mail,
because it depends on which workstation they send their mail
from. I don't think it's worth the hassle.

4. I agree with David Pickles that discussions about junk mail
are as bad as the junk mail itself. So let's stop the public
discussion, and please reply to me directly if you have further
