The following request is from a graduate student(animal science) who is in an
undergraduate biomechanics course. She has searched the literature without
much success and asked me to post the following note:


I'm looking for articles and information on the overextension
of the distal leg (3rd metacarpal, 1st phalanx, and 2nd phalanx) in horses. It
is known that racehorses can overextend that joint and smash or fracture the
proximal sesamiod bones when contact is made with the ground in extreme
overextension, but I can't seem to locate articles on the subject. What I
would like to relate this to is the overextension of the distal foreleg in
horses landing from a jump, and the analysis of the overextension. Any and
all suggestions are welcome.
