An exciting opportunity has arisen for research scientists with an ambition to work at a new state-of-the-art centre of rehabilitation excellence. We are seeking two highly motivated, enthusiastic, adaptable individuals who can apply their skills, expertise, training and knowledge of biomechanics and motion capture to the requirements of virtual reality rehabilitation and 3-D motion capture environments.

The successful candidate’s will be required to work as research scientists on the Academic Department of Military Rehabilitation (ADMR) at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), Stanford Hall in the East Midlands.

Working alongside other colleagues, the primary remit of these roles is to lead in the operation and programming of a Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) high end system and biomechanics lab within a clinical and scientific research driven environment of musculoskeletal, complex trauma, rheumatological and neurological rehabilitation. Successful candidates will also be expected to advise on statistical methods and research design, and assist the clinical research manager and head of research with the day to day running of the department.

Expertise in biomechanical 3D motion capture and clinical gait analysis techniques are essential and experience in the use of Vicon, Visual3D, CAREN technology and MATLAB desirable. Training in use of the CAREN system will be provided.

QualificationsExperience in use of movement analysis systems (Vicon, Qualisys etc.) encapsulating the collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of complex movement analysis data, underpinned with strong background knowledge in biomechanics.

Experience of leading and/or participating in clinical studies.

Minimum MSc in a related discipline in the Musculoskeletal Health Sciences (e.g. BSc/MSc Physiotherapy (HCPC Registration-not essential), Biomechanics, Bioengineering or Clinical Movement Science, Virtual Reality, Allied Health Care Professionals).

Upper second class degree or higher BSc with Honours in a related subject.
Proven data management skills.

A good understanding of research methodology.

Advanced knowledge of health statistics and use of a statistical software package (e.g. SPSS/Minitab/STATA).

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice Calc (including the use of macros and advanced formulae).
