Duties include providing instruction and mentoring to undergraduate and/or graduate students in the area of exercise physiology (including but not limited to contributing to classes such as Translational Exercise Physiology, Bioenergetics and Independent Research Internships); maintaining a strong publication record examining human health, especially in relation to the positive effects of physical activity/exercise; have, or be developing, an externally funded research program; and engaging in service roles within the university, community and profession. Preference will be given to those with a consistent record of external funding, and demonstrated leadership in supporting doctoral student training and research.

Associate/ Assistant Professor-Tenure Track (#937295)

Duties include providing instruction, advising, and mentoring to undergraduate and/or graduate students consistent with the department’s instructional/training mission and supporting one or more of the concentration areas in the doctoral program in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science; maintaining a strong publication record and funding consistent with rank and responsibilities, and engaging in service roles within the university, community and profession.

Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or closely related field (including but not limited to: Exercise and Sport Science, Applied Physiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Exercise Physiology, Physiology, Public Health, Psychology, or Rehabilitation Science).

Preferred Qualifications: Post-doctoral experience in kinesiology or a closely related field.

The successful candidate is expected to develop/further enhance a nationally recognized research program evidenced by a strong record of impactful publications and external funding. The successful candidate will compliment current department human health related research strengths (for example: adult and pediatric obesity, aging, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal injury, physical activity behaviors, skeletal muscle hypertrophic regulation, and skeletal muscle metabolism) in areas such as biomechanics and motor control, cellular and molecular physiology, exercise physiology and behavioral science, and nutritional exercise physiology. Substantial opportunities for collaborative research exist with faculty in the College of Health and Human Performance, Brody School of Medicine, and Departments of Public Health, Psychology, and Nutrition Science. Candidates will be eligible for an affiliation with institutional and departmental laboratories https://hhp.ecu.edu/kine/research-labs/ and centers that include but are not limited to the Human Performance Laboratory https://hhp.ecu.edu/kine/hpl/ (https://hhp.ecu.edu/kine/hpl/) and East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute http://www.ecu.edu/cs-dhs/ecdoi/ (http://www.ecu.edu/cs-dhs/ecdoi/). Several department faculty are also affiliated with the Eastern Carolina Chapter of Neuroscience (ECCSfN; www.ecu.edu/neurochapter/ (http://www.ecu.edu/neurochapter/)).

The successful candidate will also teach in the area of their expertise and add to the department’s reputation for delivering outstanding student development activities through thoughtfully crafted academic programs that emphasize training, discovery, and leadership in collaborative environments. The Department of Kinesiology offers several academic programs and a variety of experiences for students. Our undergraduate academic programs include a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, B.S. in Health Fitness Specialist, B.S. in Physical Education, and B.S. in Sports Studies. Our graduate programs include a M.S. in Kinesiology (with concentrations in Adapted Physical Education, Biomechanics and Motor Control, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Promotion, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sport Management), a MAEd/M.A.T. in Physical Education, and a PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science (with concentrations in Biomechanics and Motor Control, Cellular and Molecular Bioenergetics, Exercise Physiology and Behavioral Science, and Nutritional Exercise Physiology).

Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue until suitable candidates are found. Applications received by October 1, 2018 will be reviewed by the search committee to determine which applicants most strongly meet the required qualifications. Applications received after this date are not guaranteed to be fully reviewed.
