Dear Biomech Colleagues,

I am currently investigating the biomechanics of amputation, as caused by
tools under inertial loads or electrical power. I was wondering if anyone
is aware of literature regarding biomechanical criteria for amputation?
It has been sugested that the relative velocity of the tool may be important,
but it seems to me that some critical stress or energy must be required (limb
dependent) in order for a limb to be severed. Any suggestions on this topic
would be greatly appreciated, and of course all
responses will be summarized and reposted for the list.

Sincerely,

Steven Kurtz
