The School of Exercise Science at Griffith University-Gold Coast
Campus, Queensland, Australia wishes to make a temporary appointment
in biomechanics for semester 1 (Jan-July), 1996. The primary role of
the successful applicant will be to assist in teaching undergraduate
biomechanics and to contribute to the development of the new
biomechanics laboratory.

Students undertaking studies in biomechanics in semester 1, 1996 are
enrolled in the Bachelor of Exercise Science and will have completed
pre-requisite subjects covering basic mechanics and electronics.
Biomechanics 1 (2nd year subject) and Biomechanics 2 (3rd year
subject) are designed to provide strong and relevant knowledge and
skills in the field of biomechanics by examining principles of
theoretical mechanics applicable to the study of human motion and
selected biomechanical techniques available for quantifying human
performance. Both subjects are strongly focused on applications in
rehabilitation, injury prevention, ergonomics and special
populations. Bioinstrumentation is a co-requisite for Biomechanics 1
and introduces basic principles underlying the operation of
electronic instrumentation and develops practical skills for
designing, building and using simple laboratory instruments. The
LabVIEW graphical programming language is introduced and used to
collect and analyse data.

All aspects of the position are negotiable depending on
qualifications experience of the applicant. Applicants with
qualifications in Physiotherapy and/or Biomedical Engineering are
encouraged to indicate their interest. At present the position cannot
be offered on an ongoing basis, however, the School of Exercise
Science plans to make an appoitment in this area in the near future
(subject to the necessary approvals).
