The Division of Restorative Neurology and Human Neurobiology at Baylor
College of Medicine seeks a full-time Research Physical Therapist or Research
Kinesiologist (masters level). The Division, as the first department of this
emerging discipline, promotes research, education and clinical service. Restorative
neurology is the branch of neurological science which applies active procedures to
improve function of the impaired nervous system of acute or chronic patients
through selective modification of impaired neurocontrol based on a thorough
understanding of the underlying mechanisms. The individual will be required to
collaborate with both scientists and physicians on research and clinical studies
involving stroke and spinal cord injured subjects. The individual's main emphasis
will be in the Human Motor Control Laboratory and in part with the Functional
Electrical Stimulation Program. The Human Motor Control Laboratory is
equipped with a 4-camera VICON System with 2 AMTI force platforms, a 16
channel and 10 channel EMG system, a Kin-Com Isokinetic Muscle Testing
System and a treadmill with bodyweight suspension capabilities. Qualifications
include a degree in physical therapy or a Master's degree in kinesiology with
experience in scientific research. Preference will be given to applicants who have
prior experience in gait analysis, electromyography and functional electrical
stimulation. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
