This posting is directed mainly to interested robotics and
gait researchers in the Ithaca and Central New York area.

It happens that our department (Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Cornell
University) has more or less inadvertently scheduled two
speakers to give seminars on dynamics and control of bipedal
locomotion during the same week. We decided to take advantage of this
situation by having both speakers extend their stay and spend Saturday,
April 27 in a very INFORMAL discussion session regarding topics of common
interest (mostly dynamics and control of bipedal locomotion, with some
discussion of collision modeling of rigid bodies and mechanisms).

We are inviting anyone who is interested to the talks and also to join us
in discussion on Saturday. No formal schedule has been made for Sat. - it will
be dependent on the amount of interest. If you would like to join us on Sat.,
please send your name, email, telephone, and research interests to
garcia@tam.cornell.edu within the next several days, and I will formulate
a plan and pass it along to anyone who is interested. If anyone from the
surrounding area needs directions, I will be happy to provide them.

The schedule thus far is as follows:
Wednesday, April 24
Dr. Art Kuo from University of Michigan will give a talk entitled
"Stability and Control of Bipedal Locomotion in 3D: Can A Robot
Move Gracefully?"
4:30PM in Thurston Hall, Room 205 (refreshments at 4:15PM in dept. lounge)

Friday, April 26
Dr. Yildirim Hurmuzlu from Southern Methodist University will talk on
"Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Bipedal Gait"
4:30PM in Thurston Hall, Room 205 (refreshments at 4:15PM in dept. lounge)

Saturday, April 27 will be devoted to informal talks and discussion
on bipedal locomotion and rigid body dynamics, depending on the interests
of those who are present.
