INFLUENCE OF MUSCLE FORCES ON THE INTERNAL LOADS
IN THE FEMUR DURING GAIT

For most biomechanical investigations, in vitro
experiments as well as mathematical models, the
boundary conditions are commonly roughly
approximated.

This is mainly due to the fact that the influences
of the various muscle groups on the load state in
bones were seldom subject of investigation.

In my thesis work I had the opportunity to analyze
the influence of the various thigh muscles on the
load situation in the whole femur during gait.

Quantified are the influences of the different
muscles on the femoral load state, taking into
account various published muscle force data.
Further, the influences of ligaments and compartment
pressures are estimated.
