A position is available immediately for a post-doctoral
fellow, in the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory at
Boston's Beth Israel Hospital. The Orthopaedic Biomechanics
Laboratory is a multi-disciplinary research facility involved
in basic and applied research in nine areas:

1) etiology and prevention of age-related fractures
2) preclinical studies of osteodynamic agents
3) joint injuries and reconstructions
4) osteoporosis screening and diagnosis
5) metastatic and benign bone defects
6) basic bone mechanics
7) spinal reconstruction
8) fracture healing and treatment
9) pediatric orthopaedics

The successful applicant will work primarily in the area of
pediatric orthopaedics investigating optimization of surgical
procedures for "containing the hip joint" in the treatment of
hip dysplasia, perthes disease and slipped epiphysis;
evaluating different methods of fracture fixation in
treating pediatric femur fractures and designing a new
intramedulary nail; evaluating different brace designs
for immobilizing the lumbo-sacral spine for treatment of
spondylolysis.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in engineering and research
skills in biomechanics. The fellow must be a US citizen or
hold permanent residency in the US. Salary will depend on
experience. Funds are available for three years and the
fellow will be encouraged to apply for future funding.
Opportunities exist in the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory
for permanent scientific staff positions.
