Gait Laboratory Physical Therapist

The Shreveport Unit of Shriners Hospitals for Children is a pediatric
specialty hospital offering high-quality orthopaedic medical care to
children and adolescents, at no cost to the patient or their family.

We are seeking to employ a qualified and highly motivated individual as a
Physical Therapist for our new Gait Analysis Laboratory. This appointment,
to commence October 1996, will initially be on a part-time basis;
application has been made to fund this position as full-time, from January
1997. Responsibilities will include extensive involvement in the clinical
evaluation of patients; the integration of kinematic, kinetic,
electromyographic and clinical data into a comprehensive report used for
treatment decision-making; and involvement as part of a developing research

Candidates for this position should have a Bachelor's Degree in Physical
Therapy and be licensed (or have the ability to obtain licensure) to
practice Physical Therapy in the State of Louisiana. Prior clinical gait or
biomechanics experience and computer literacy would be an advantage. Salary
and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Gait Analysis Laboratory is a new facility, due to begin routine
patient-assessment in January 1997; it will be equipped with a six-camera
Vicon system, three AMTI force platforms, a surface/fine-wire EMG system and
a Novel emed plantar-pressure measurement system. The clinical role of the
laboratory will be to assess the posture and walking patterns of children
and adolescents with a wide range of neurologic and orthopaedic conditions.
