Announcement of Exercise and Sport Sciences
Faculty Position for 1997

The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Texas Tech
University is seeking a tenure track faculty member in Exercise and Sport
Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree in the area of ESS with emphasis on
special populations. Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and a
record of scholarly activity. Appointment will be at the rank of assistant
professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of
adapted physical education, supervise graduate students, and undertake
curriculum development. Other responsibilities include department
committees, service activities, developing a working relationship with
faculty and clinicians of the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, the
College of Education and personnel at special care facilities and public
schools.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be effective January 1, 1997.

THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY: The Department of HPER is housed in
the College of Arts and Sciences. The Bachelors of Science and Arts are
offered, as well as Master of Education and Master of Science in Sports
Health. Seven hundred and seventy undergraduate students are currently
enrolled in programs in fitness and wellness promotion, teacher
preparation, recreation and leisure studies and health education.
Approximately 200 graduate students, at various stages of matriculation,
take advantage of specialties in motor behavior, adapted physical
education, exercise science, educational foundations, sport management, and
leisure services administration. Texas Tech University is a state
supported coeducational institution with a student population of 25,000
located in the West Texas city of Lubbock. The campus is a 1,839 acre
tract, making it one of the largest in the nation. The Spanish Renaissance
style red tile roofed buildings are surrounded by expansive lawns and
impressive landscaping. The university is well equipped not only for
research and study, but also for varied cultural and recreational
activities.
