To all:

I would like to invite abstracts from all interested individuals
in the following areas and meetings:

1) Bioartificial Materials (i.e. man-made living tissues substitutes),
for presentation at the 1997 Summer Bioengineering Conference in Sun
River Oregon (a beautiful place, so they tell me). I am helping
organize the session with Victor Barocas and R. Tranquillo. Although
time is very short (the deadline was actually 12/16/96), I would still
like to encourage those of you who have not yet been to one the Summer
Bioeng. meetings to submit and attend. Abstracts are to be submitted
on 8.5 x 11" paper. The format instructions may be obtained from:

DEADLINES
Submission of abstracts: December 16, 1996

(Obviously extended a bit, but try to get them in ASAP. Contact me or
R. Tranquillo at: tranquillo@cems.umn.edu for the absolute final
deadline.)

Notification of authors: March 15, 1977

The conference will be held in the Sun River Resort, in Sun River, Oregon (15
Miles south of Bend, Oregon) on US Highway 97. Commuter airlines serve the
Redmond/Bend airport from San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Bring the
family for a fun-filled week with an exciting conference along with many outdoor
activities in the resort ( bicycling, fishing, horseback riding, tennis, swimming,
canoeing,kayaking, and white water rafting).

2) The Biomechanics of Biologically Derived Materials for the 1997 ASME
IMECE in Dallas, TX November 17-21 1997. My current concept for this
session is the mechanics of chemically treated tissue from human or
animal sources (e.g. heart valves, pericardium, etc.), non-chemically
treated living transplant tissues (e.g. porcine sub-mucosa,aortic valve
homografts), or any type of post-processed living/non-living/chemically
treated tissue designed for implantation. Please submit your name and
title to my email address ASAP.

I will be out of town until 1/6/97. Those of you who have urgent questions
regarding the summer meeting, please contact Robert Tranquillo. Otherwise,
I will answer any questions you might have. I hope to develop a
session that will be a unique combination of rigorous biomechanics and
novel biomaterials. Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Michael Sacks
