Dear Biomechs,

A couple of days ago I posted a question relating to the mechanical testing
of ligament without the use of a bone-ligament-bone complex. Following
advice from J.J. Trey Crisco, Ph.D. I will now clarify my posting.

We have an opportunity to obtain samples of ligament during
metacarpophalangeal replacement surgery. The prosthesis being used allows
for the sacrifice of the ulnar colateral ligament. The tissue sample will be
small with a length of only 10-15mm. Has anyone determined the Young's
modulus of simalar specimen. Trey Crisco also suggested using liquid
nitrogen filled clamping boxes. Does anyone have references for this
technique.

Thanking the list in advance, and all responses will be posted,
