Hello Biomch-L folks:

I'm interested in locomotion in arboreal animals and I want to build a
force pole (using principles like those used to build a force plate).
The pole would be vertical and measure forces along the axis of the pole
(vertical) and in the plane normal to the axis (horizontal). I can buy
strain guages pretty easily, we have a major manufacturer very close by in
Raleigh, North Carolina.

And of course, like anyone interested in animal biomechanics, I'm working
on a tight research budget.

So, my question is, does anyone have any suggestions about how to
build a force pole. Does anyone know of any publications that have
some nuts and bolts details about how to build one?

Thanks for your input. I'll publish a summary of responses.

best wishes, John CAntrell
