THE PROJECT

The Automated Tracking of Three-dimensional Human Movement

The idea is to develop an automated procedure for tracking three-dimensional
human movement using two or more recorded video images.

This will be done using a three-dimensional graphics model of the human body
which will be positioned and oriented in order to optimise the match between
the model image and the recorded video image. The graphics model has already
been developed and has the facility to be customised using measurements
taken on an individual. An example of the simulation model can be seen at:

THE STUDENTSHIP

A three-year PhD studentship comprising fees and maintenance for a student
from an EEC country is available for this project.

THE STUDENT

Applicants should have a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree in Human Movement,
Sports Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computing and should
also have some mathematics and computing background.

THE DEPARTMENT

The department obtained a rating of 5 in the latest Research Assessment
Exercise and currently has more than 60 postgraduate research students.
The university has good sporting facilities and is situated centrally
with easy access to most parts of England.
