Dear Biomch-L readers,

After a long period of silence, the SUEARN-L Digest of April 12 was received
this morning (the previous one was dated September 7, 1991, and contained
some fascinating news on the use of email during the August 1991 coup). It is
a huge file of about 120 kB, and it contains a mixture of interesting items.
One of these is the announcement that the (former) Soviet Union is now on
EARN/BITNET; I have appended the relevant NODENTRY items as retrieved this
morning from NETSERV@HEARN.BITNET / NETSERV@NIC.SURFNET.NL.

Unfortunately, power limitations are curtailing the use of this channel to
official working hours only: at 5 pm on weekdays, SUEARN2 (and thus, SUCEMI
as well) are not connected to the international link DKEARN in Copenhagen.
Of course, email to these nodes is preserved at DKEARN until it can be for-
warded.

With email through other networks such as EUnet/UUCP's RELCOM (for Reliable
Communications) also curtailed by costs, one would hope that the EARN/BITNET
link and current work on Internet-type TCP/IP connections will enhance impro-
ved communication with the CIS.
