SIXTH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUMON COMPUTATIONAL METHODS IN
ORTHOPAEDIC BIOMECHANICS

This is the last announcement for the Sixth Annual Symposium on Computational
Methods in Orthopaedic Biomechanics which will be held on Sunday, March 15,
1998 at Tulane University in New Orleans, preceding the 44th Annual Meeting of
the Orthopaedic Research Society. The symposium is scheduled from 8:30am until
4:45 pm.

The symposium will be held on Tulane's "uptown campus" in
Room 131 of Goldring/Waldenberg Hall (Business School), which is the
same location where it was held four years ago. This symposium is being
sponsored by the A.C. Suhren Lecture fund from the Tulane Department of
Biomedical Engineering and by industry.

Since its inception in 1993, this symposium has provided a more
informal setting where graduate students and/or recent graduates have
presented their recent and on-going computational work related to
orthopaedic biomechanics. The audience has also included senior
researchers in the field. This meeting has been a very valuable
educational experience by providing a forum for open discussion and
sharing of ideas.

PROGRAM:

This year's program has four sessions divided into: soft tissue mechanics,
joint mechanics, bone mechanics, and hard-tissue and spine mechanics.
Presentations will last 12 minutes followed by 3 minutes of questions.
Each session will be moderated by two co-chairs, who will lead a 15 minute
general discussion at the end of each session. There will be breaks between
the sessions and lunch will be provided for all participants. The day will
end with a New Orleans' style crawfish boil.

REGISTRATION:

There is no charge for Registration, but attendance is limited to 160.
We will be providing breakfast, lunch and crawfish for all attendees.
Everyone interested in attending must pre-register so that we can better
plan the events. Please pre-register as soon as possible if you have
not already done so, but by March 1 at the latest. Note that on-site
registration will not be possible.

To pre-register simply send a message to:
preors98@nautilus.bmen.tulane.edu with your name and affiliation.
A confirmation will be sent back to you.

The final program, directions to the location of the symposium, a list of job
opportunities in orthopaedic biomechanics, and a list of those pre-registered
can be found at:

If you need instructions to be sent to you or have any questions about the
symposium please send a message to: preors98@nautilus.bmen.tulane.edu

We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans.
