Jacques Monod Conference

Ontogenesis, motor learning and recovery of functions

Organizers: Jean MASSION (Marseille) and Hans HULTBORN (Copenhagen)

The Conference will be held in AUSSOIS, a pleasant resort in the French
Alps, from September 19th to September 24th 1998. The Jacques Monod
Conferences organized by the French C.N.R.S. are devoted to recent progress
in fundamental biology and its applications; they are intended to offer an
opportunity for in-depth discussion and to facilitate the exchange of ideas.
Each afternoon is left free for informal discussions and relaxing, and
plenty time is allowed for discussions.

80 to 100 participants from different research fields, all working on
various aspects of motor control will attend this meeting. The main idea is
to promote deep insights into the processes underlying plasticity and
adaptation in motor control during ontogenesis, motor learning and
functional recovery with a view to elucidating of the processes which are
common to all these fields as well as those which are specific to a given field.

The program is divided into three main parts.
1. Basic mechanisms and development of motor networks.
Invited speakers: A. Nieoullon, P. Gauthier, J. Armand, J. Simmers, J.
Champagnat, J. Glover, K. Sillar.

2. Brain Mechanisms in motor learning.
Invited speakers: M. Hallett, M. Jeannerod, M. Latash, M. Kawato, R. Nudo,
L. Rispal-Padel, A. Graybiel, M. Wiesendanger, H.-J. Freund, S. Rossignol.

3. Adaptation and learning in multijoint tasks.
Invited speakers: E. Thelen, G. Gauthier, L.-G. Pettersson, H. Forssberg,
C. Assaiante, A. Gramsbergen, F. Clarac, A. Berthoz, H. Dietz, M. Ioffé, H.

Application to attend the Conference
Those who are interested in attending the Conference should send an
application before April 30th, 1998 with a short curriculum vitae, a list of
three recent publications, a title and an abstract (1 page) of the
presentation (poster with short oral presentation). The cost of
participation covering the registration fees and the living expanses will be
approximately 4.000 FF ( about 350 dollars). A few grants might be
available. The applications should be sent to Jean Massion before April 30.
