Dear Colleague,

It is a pleasure to invite you to the

SECOND EUROPEAN CONFERENCE
ON ENGINEERING AND MEDICINE

in Stuttgart, April 25-28, 1993.

This conference will be an important meeting point, and will form a
European forum, where engineers and medical doctors meet, exchange
ideas and form the scientific impetus for improvements in the wide
field of biomedical engineering. It will continue the success of the
first European conference in Nice in February 1991.

However, the present conference will also be concerned with the
increasing social impact of biomedical engineering in the health
service. Thus, the meeting will provide opportunity to keep abreast
of the new waves in science and provide possibilities of presenting
"hot" communications. Furthermore, there will be a sizeable commer-
cial exhibition with the focus on newer technology. All accepted
contributions (oral as well as poster) will be published and made
available at the meeting. A special session is planned where industry
can present its novel techniques and applications. - All this will
provide a fruitful forum for establishing new contacts for projects
and promote cooperation with industry.

Stuttgart presents itself at its best in April. Furthermore, during
this period the town will host the outstanding 5th International
Horticulture Exhibition adding to the beautiful city of Stuttgart and
its serene environment which will make your stay a very pleasant
experience.

There will be a number of satellite meetings in connection with the
conference some as industrial and some as European Community project
meetings. Thus, there will be a large and varied activity making this
conference a special event in 1993.

We look forward to welcoming you in Stuttgart.

Jan E.W. Beneken Steen Gamwell Dawids
President of ESEM Conference Chairman
