Hosted by the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science,
Griffith University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
9 - 12 July, 1998.

Oral and Poster submissions are invited for this, our second International
Conference. The conference will provide an opportunity to share research
findings through paper and poster presentations as well as informal
discussions and is designed to focus upon scientific questions of exercise
science. To that end, each day will be taken up by scientific discussion
and debate. Supporting the conference will be a social programme.

CONFERENCE THEMES:
-Exercise, Motor Control and Neural Plasticity
-Exercise, Aging and Adaptation
-Exercise and Cardiovascular Control

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
-Prof Roger Enoka, Department of Kinesiology, University of Colorado at
Boulder, USA.
-Prof Loring (Larry) B. Rowell, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics and
of Medicine (Cardiology), University of Washington, USA.
-Prof Ian McCloskey, Prince of Wales Medical Institute, Australia.
-Prof Peter Sinnett, Emeritus Professor of Geriatrics, University of New
South Wales, Australia.

VENUE:
The Second International Conference on Exercise Science will be held at the
Gold Coast campus of Griffith University. The campus is situated in
Parklands Drive, Southport, Gold Coast, Queensland, and is about 40 km
north of Coolangatta airport (Gold Coast Airport) and about 85 km south of
Brisbane airport. Coolangatta airport is typically "The Coast", relaxed,
friendly and well serviced by Ansett Australia.

The Gold Coast campus of Griffith University is small and therefore easy to
move around, find a carpark space and access to all the university
facilities. The campus is 4 km from the Pacific Ocean and approximately 5
km from Surfers Paradise and the beautiful Marina Mirage restaurants and
boutique shops.

I look forward to welcoming you to "The Coast" and Griffith University. As
they say, "Beautiful one day, perfect the next!"...it is true for the Gold
Coast.

-Professor Greg Gass, Chair, Organising Committee

NEW INVESTIGATOR AWARD:
A noteworthy feature of the conference is the New Investigator Award for
our brightest and newest researchers in the area of Exercise Science.

CONFERENCE PROGRAMME:
The Conference Programme has been structured to provide three days of
stimulating and provocative discussions within the three conference themes:
Exercise and Cardiovascular Control; Exercise, Aging and Adaptation and
Exercise, Motor Control and Plasticity. The Programme will begin on
Thursday evening with a keynote address and official welcome. This will be
followed by scientific papers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will
conclude with the New Investigator Award.

Discussion and interaction will be encouraged at all levels of the
conference. Each day will include keynote addresses from one or more of the
invited speakers, and oral scientific presentations. On the afternoon of
Saturday 11 July, a full poster session is proposed, supported with
excellent Australian wines and "nibbles" to ensure easy and lively
discussion.

On Sunday morning, 11 July, papers will be presented by Postgraduate
students, one of whom may win the New Investigator Award. The Conference
will close between 1 - 2 pm Sunday with the presentation of the New
Investigator Award. A complimentary transport service will be provided to
take conference attendees to Brisbane and Coolangatta airports for Sunday
afternoon flights home.

ACCOMMODATION:
There is no on-campus accommodation, but "the Coast" being such a popular
holiday destination caters for all budgets from Back Packers to Five Star
hotels.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME:

(9 July) the Conference will open with an official address which will be
followed by a light supper. Partners of conference registrants are welcome
