RESEARCH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE: ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY

RESEARCH FELLOW IN IMAGE ANALYSIS/BIOTRIBOLOGY


The above ARC funded post is available from November
1998 for a fixed period of three years to investigate
the predictive qualities of early radiological
assessment, especially the precise measurement of
wear, in total hip arthroplasty. The programme will
involve the development of software to assess wear
from digitised radiographs and comparison of different
methodologies as well as the analysis of different
patient cohorts.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject,
and experience in developing image-processing
algorithms preferably using PV-Wave. Experience
in medical imaging is essential preferably gained
in a research environment. They must be self-motivated
and able to work successfully with different
professional groups. Knowledge of
biotribology/orthopaedic surgery is desirable.

Salary will be on the scale for Research Staff
Grade 1A up to =A317,958 according to qualifications
and relevant experience. The Arthritis Research
Campaign provides a discretionary award of two
further points for the successful candidate who
holds a PhD.

months to investigate 'Lung function in idiopathic scoliotic patients'. T=
he programme will involve the development of softw
re to assess changes in the chest wall during respiration and comparison w=
ith measures of respiratory function and scoliotic deformity.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject,
and experience in developing image-processing
algorithms preferably using PV-Wave or IDL.
Experience in medical imaging is essential
preferably gained in a research environment.
They must be self-motivated and able to work
successfully with different professional groups.
Knowledge of orthopaedic surgery is desirable but
not essential.

Salary will be on the scale for Research Staff
Grade 1A up to =A318,864 pro rata. according to
qualifications and relevant experience.
