The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Kansas Medical Center, a Carnegie Level I Research Institution seeks a highly motivated person with a Ph.D. in physical therapy or related field, and strong dedication to academia and professional advancement. A clearly defined or developed research focus in any of the following areas is strongly desired: (1) Muscle and/or Connective Tissue Biology and Biomechanics; (2) Aging, Motor Control and Stroke Rehabilitation; or (3) Cardiopulmonary Therapeutics and Exercise Physiology.

The department is developing a Ph.D. program, and has well-developed laboratories supporting biomechanical assessment of gait and posture, biomechanical, physiological and biochemical studies on muscle and connective tissue plasticity and adaptation, as well as exercise physiology and cardiopulmonary therapeutics. A major thrust of this recruitment is to further advance the research capacity of the department.

The department collaborates strongly with the University's Center on Aging which has a well-developed Human Performance Laboratory. Individuals with backgrounds in aging, biomechanics, motor control, and/or stroke rehabilitation will be considered for the combined position of Faculty/Director of the Human Performance Laboratory.
