THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
VIRGINIA

invites applications for three tenure-track positions at the Assistant
Professor level in the areas of computational biomechanics, dynamics &
controls, microscale phenomena of heat transfer and combustion, structural
dynamics, turbomachinery, and high speed aero dynamics starting September
1999. Consideration will be given to exceptional
candidates at other levels. Duties include teaching at both undergraduate
and graduate levels, initiating funded research, and supervising graduate
student research.

Primary considerations will be given for applicants in (1) injury/impact
biomechanics including automobile crash simulations, (2) dynamics and
controls of nonlinear space structures and control-structural interactions,
(3) microscale heat transfer, microfluidics, and microscale combustion, (4)
air-craft crashworthiness, (5) turbomachinery aerodynamics, and (6)
experimental/computational aerodynamics. A Ph.D. is required for the
positions. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

The Department has approximately 300 undergraduate students, 80
graduate students, and 29 faculty. The School of Engineering and Applied
Science has a strong commitment to both teaching and scholarly research.
