Job title: Research Associate in a locomotor neurorehabilitation laboratory
in the Department of Neurology

The UCLA Locomotion Laboratory (http://www.harkema.ucla.edu/) seeks
applications for a full-time research associate. We are looking for
someone interested in assisting in a research project on the locomotor
rehabilitation of spinal cord injury patients (supported by NIH). The
candidate will have a background in the life sciences or engineering with
excellent computer skills (PC environment, Microsoft Excel & Word),
computer programming experience (LabView preferred), and experience with
the quantitative analysis of human movement. This position is ideal for
recent masters or bachelors graduates in engineering, kinesiology, or
physiology who wish to work in a clinical research environment. Salary
will be in the range of $27,000-$30,000/year and commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The position requires a minimum one year
commitment.

Primary duties will include, but will not be limited to:
1) Maintenance of laboratory equipment
a) laboratory organization
b) manual writing under direction of laboratory staff
c) routine calibration of equipment
d) maintain files (including protocols, methods, research results, lab
documentation)
e) order supplies and maintain inventories
f) maintain computer software manuals, license numbers
g) setting up new equipment / software
h) routine back up of all computers
i) manage the lab schedules such as the use of equipment and computers,
meetings, etc.
j) design/build equipment as needed
k) computer programming using LabView software

2) Experiments
a) assist in setting up equipment for experiments
b) perform pilot experiments under direction of staff for testing of
equipment
c) developing and refining experimental set-ups that relate to the use of
equipment and facilities
d) scheduling patient training sessions and laboratory experiments

3) Data analysis
a) transferring and storing data
b) analyzing date using software programs for data reduction

Desirable skills include:
1) good organization
2) energy and enthusiasm for doing research as well as an interest in and
a commitment to learning about the research process
3) good communication skills
4) self motivated and initiator
5) computer skills in PC environments (Word, Excel, and LabView)
6) good knowledge and skills in electrical circuitry and trouble shooting of
biomedical equipment
7) ability to interact with health sciences staff, researchers, and spinal
cord injury patients in a clinical environment
