Applications are invited for a research studentship in Biomechanics in the
Department of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure Studies at University
of Edinburgh. This will be based on research activity leading to the award
of PhD together with the teaching of undergraduate classes in Sports
Science to a maximum of six hours contact per week. Supervision of both
teaching and research will be completed by senior staff within the

Applicants should normally have, or about to obtain, a 1st class or 2:1
honours degree in a relevant discipline. The department will consider
applicants whose first degrees are in a variety of subjects as long as
they are appropriate to the research topic selected.

Whilst there is no specified topic of study for the PhD, current
departmental and staff expertise is in applied sports biomechanics
(cycling, volleyball and golf) and biomechanics of health and exercise.
However, new staff appointments are expected in biomechanics in 1999-2000,
and so other areas will also be considered.

The studentship includes a bursary of GBP 6455 p.a. (plus dependants'
allowance where appropriate) and all fees over three years (subject to
satisfactory progress).
