Dear colleagues:

Once again, I was just overwhelmed by the replies to my earlier posting. I
appreciate all your help.

It seems there are three 3M products commonly used in making reflective
markers:

1. 3M 7610WS High Gain Shtg (3M UPC code: 0-00-51138-30478-2)

0.5", 1", 2" x 50 yd roll

2. 3M 8850 Trans Film (3M UPC code: 75-0299-8772-6)

1" x 100 yds

3. 3M Scotchlite Series

I finally settled to 7610WS which costs $261.44/roll. If you buy a complete
box (2 rolls), it is cheaper per roll.

Enclosed are the messages I've got.

Good day!

Young-Hoo Kwon

Hi Dr. Kwon
Regarding the 3M reflective tape please check "3M retroreflective tape part
no. 8850". I think this is what you are looking for. Regards.

Hello -

The 3M reflective tape that I have came from Peak Performance Tech. The
role does have some numbers on the inside that may be of value:

in bold it says: 7610WS

Run No: BAI3 1

Drum No: 2

Hope this helps. It is what I use for sport technique analyses.

Take care,

Monique

Our 3M tape has only 1 marking tag:
USA5
DR B3
174

I think it is made in the St. Paul MN 3M plant.

Dear Dr. Kwon,

I have used 3-M tape called Scotch Lite Tape. On the packing list that I
saved the "3M-ID/UPC" code was and under the heading
"product" is listed: I know there are different types of tape, but we have used
this type to cover our retroreflective markers for use with our Vicon
system with great success.

We've used the following item in the past:

8850 Trans Film (1in x 100 yds - five rolls) - 3M ID is 75-0299-8772-6.

This is off an old invoice that lists Marilyn Roberts as the customer
service
provider at (800) 328-7098.

7610 will work quite well, although there are brighter materials
on the market now. 7610 can be bought in rolls, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0
inches wide. Be aware, it's quite expensive ... more than $100/roll
(50 yds) as I recall.

Hello,

We use 3M reflective sheets to make our reflective markers. The product
name
is:

Scotchlite 280 Series (Reflective-White)

This used to be called something else, but 3M changed its product line
recently. It comes in large rolls (we purchase it in a 30 inch by 10 yard
roll)
and it also comes in many colors. The sheeting is probably very similar to
the
tape (it has an adhesive side). We get ours from a local sign making
company (I
think 3M has only a few distributors in each state). The 30 yard roll costs
about $260.00 US.

If you are looking on the 3M web site (it can get confusing) try looking in
their sign division for the reflective sheeting - I think that is where I
tracked down some information.

Hope this helps!

One material that we used was 3M's Scotchlite Reflective Pressure Sensitive
Film (8850 Silver). That was 3 years ago so I'm not sure that this number
is current. I could not find it on the web, but you can get it through the
contact below:

I just called the 3M 800 no. and found out that if you don't have a $500
order, you will need to go through a distributor. They have faxed me a
list. The best way to get that list is to phone 1-800-328-7098. You will
have it within minutes.
