Position Announcement


Nominations and applications are invited for a tenure track faculty
position in Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University at the
assistant or associate professor level. Applicants must have a Ph.D.
in Biomedical Engineering or a related field with emphasis in
orthopedics or musculoskeletal research. The faculty would have
primary research responsibility at the Musculoskeletal Research
Center, Department of Orthopedics. The appointment will be made
jointly between the School of Medicine and the College of Engineering
and Mineral Resources. The College of Engineering and Mineral
Resources Graduate Program in Bioengineering awards M.S. and Ph.D.
degrees in participating departments.

The Musculoskeletal Research Center has identified three areas of
specific interests: (1) Biomaterials, (2) Biomechanics, and (3)
Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Engineering. The successful candidate
will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in
engineering, give basic science lectures for medical students,
supervise graduate students, develop a productive program in research,
collaborate with health sciences professionals and attract external
funds in one of the designated biomedical engineering areas.

Applications are due by September 15, 1999 or until a suitable
candidate is found. While the starting date of the appointment is
negotiable, the ideal starting date for the position will be January,
