RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION AVAILABLE

The Tissue Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering
at the University of Vermont has an immediate opening for a Laboratory
Technician in the area of intervertebral disc bioengineering.

The Laboratory Technician will support an NIH funded research project that
addresses how mechanical forces affect intervertebral disc structure and
composition in vivo. Responsibilities include participation in experiments
on the intervertebral disc using mechanical, chemical, and imaging
techniques.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Vermont
offers a stimulating environment for bioengineering in a beautiful New
England setting. Several faculty in the Department maintain active research
programs in orthopaedic and vascular bioengineering. Excellent facilities
are available in the Department and through collaborators at the medical
school a short walk across campus. The position comes with excellent
benefits and tuition remission. Graduate studies in mechanical engineering,
biomedical engineering, or other related field are encouraged.

A strong interest in soft-tissue mechanics, structure, and composition is
required. Good experimental skills are required. Experience in finite
element modeling, the ability to design and fabricate testing equipment, or
biochemical skills are highly desirable.

Please apply immediately with cover letter and cv. For more information,
