In the context of an integrated study on the process of biological
adaptation, applied to locomotion, the Department of Biology of the
University of Antwerp (UIA) is looking for

Candidates should be trained in the field of ecological-morphology or
functional-morphology (preferably on locomotion) and have ample experience
with experimentation in (locomotor) performance, kinematics and other
biomechanical aspects. He/she will assist in the development and the
actual carrying out of experiments, in collaboration with other
researchers. The final goal is to link morphological variation to
variation in performance, kinematics, etc, to look for potential
trade-offs between several components of locomotor performance (e.g. speed
versus endurance) and to investigate the effect of environmental variables
on the relation between design and performance. Lizards, frogs and
butterflies are the study species. The project runs over a period of
two years, with a possible extension of one year. The intentional
starting date is 01 march 2000.

More information about the project can be found on

!! If you want to apply, the (very strict) dead-line for submission is 15
december 1999 !!
