Baxter Healthcare Corp. is an international medical products company with

of over six billion dollars. The Cardiovascular Group, a one billion
dollar subsidiary of Baxter,
is home to Heart Valve Therapy in Irvine, California. HVT produces
prosthetic heart valves
(both bioprosthetic and mechanical), annuloplasty devices and ancillary
products around the world.
International sales are responsible for about half of Baxter's business,
making it truly a global company.
The Baxter Cardiovascular Group world headquarters is located in Irvine,
which is in Orange County,
California. Irvine has been consistently ranked as one of the three safest
U.S. cities for the last several
years by the FBI. Located a comfortable 40 miles from Los Angeles, the
area is home to an enormous
number of attractions and activities. In April, 2000, the Cardiovascular
Group will be spinning-off as

Job Description
The candidate will be responsible for mechanical testing of bioprosthetic
tissues and biomaterials,
including uniaxial tension testing, biaxial tension testing and fatigue
This position will principally involve following existing test procedures
and developing new procedures,
fixtures and tests as required. Solid computer skills are a must,
including experience with
the use of productivity applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets).
Experience programming
Labview, C/C++ and Matlab would be valuable. The candidate will work with
other engineers,
biologists and chemists in-house as well as collaborate with external
academic researchers.
The successful individual will be self-motivated and be able to work
independently, but be willing
to consult with peers when required. We offer an exciting and challenging

Job Requirements
A degree (Bachelor's with minimum 3 years experience or Master's) in
Mechanical, Biomedical
or Civil Engineering with relevant experience performing mechanical testing
of soft tissues
or polymers and analyzing results. Some experience in tissue culture
techniques and
aseptic sample preparation desired. Must be motivated and be able to work
in a collaborative work environment that includes technical interaction and
Good communication skills with both technical and lay people are important.

this position
will depend on the successful candidate's experience and education, in the
range of $44,080-$66,120 (USD).
