I have submitted an IACUC proposal that calls for bilateral canine acl
One limb will be treated and the other will serve as a control. The
commitee is balking
at the bilateral surgery, despite plans for adequate pain control.

I have searched the literature for articles that discuss bilateral surgery
in the canine mode
and have had modest success.

I would appreciate more citations to support my proposal. I would also
appreciate opinions
regarding this topic. Obviously, there is a greater emotional attachment
to canines than
most other animal model subjects. However, another way to look at this is
to consider that more
canine subjects will be required if the contralateral limb cannot serve as
a control

I appreciate your reponses.
