The technician's main responsibility will be to assist the core members
of the Rehabilitation R&D Center for Excellence in Limb Loss Prevention
and Prosthetic Engineering in conducting research in the Center's areas
of interests. These areas include: motion analysis, cadaveric testing,
computational modeling of the foot and lower extremity, prosthetic
engineering, artificial muscles, and epidemiological studies. One
recently funded project entitled "The Effect of Motor Imbalance on Bony
Deformity and Plantar Pressure in the Foot" will be the technician's
primary area of concentration. The specific duties associated with this
grant marked below with asterisks; the other duties are potential areas
of work depending on the technician's strengths and interests.

Specific Duties:
** Assist in the data acquisition and analysis from the Motion Analysis
Laboratory. Equipment in the laboratory includes electromagnetic and
retro-reflective motion analysis systems, force plates, pressure plates
and EMG measurement systems. **

** Reconstruction of bony and soft tissue geometry of the foot and ankle
from CT imaging studies. These data are used to develop finite element
models of the foot. **

Design and modification of cadaveric testing apparatuses. The devices
are used to simulate different shaped feet in a controlled laboratory
setting, as well as to quantify the mechanical properties of various
soft tissues.

Assist in the construction and testing of prototype prosthetic limb

The successful applicant will receive supervision from the core
investigators of the Center. As the applicant becomes familiar with the
data collection, coordination and analysis procedures, he or she will be
expected to become more or less independent on a day-to-day basis. The
investigators will always be available for any questions or problems.
The applicant will be expected to interact with test subjects,
rehabilitation medicine doctors, orthopedic surgeons, residents,
engineers and graduate students

Requires a minimum of a BS Degree with knowledge of theories,
principles, practices and techniques of biomechanics. Knowledge or
experience in mechanical or bioengineering, computer systems, anatomy
and physiology, medical statistics, and the operation of machine shop
and electronics to construct specialized research equipment would be
