    Biomedical Materials is carrying out an exciting and innovative
    multidisciplinary research programme to establish second generation medical
    implants and prostheses, with projects progressing from concept to the
    patient.
    Research is organised in 4 programme areas:
    Bone and Joint Replacement;
    Orthopaedic Systems;
    Dental Applications;
    Tissue Engineering.

    The IRC is based at Queen Mary and Westfield College including St
    Bartholemew's and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry and at
    the Royal Free and University College Medical School including the
    Institute of Orthopaedics at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust.

    http://www.irc-biomed-materials.qmw.ac.uk/.

    We are seeking applications for the following EPSRC PhD Studentships:

    Mesenchymal stem cells in tissue engineered implants
    Mechanical conditioning of cell seeded constructs
    Imaging of cytoskeletal-mediated cell processes
    Accelerated wear in a hip wear simulator
    Cellular events at the surface of bioactive materials
    Acetate binding co-polymerisation in biocomposites
    Hydrocolloids as drug delivery systems
    Fluoride ion delivery from methacrylates
    Silicon elasteomers for soft prosthesis materials
    A new complient vascular stent

    To apply for one of these projects, you must have, or be expecting to
    obtain, a 1st or 2i degree, or a 2ii and an M.Sc. in one of the following
