Second announcement & additional information: GCMA Student Conference Awards

The Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis (GCMA) Society is pleased to announce the availability of twelve GCMA Student Conference Awards to support student participation in the 2000 GCMA Annual Meeting, to be held on April 12-15, 2000 in Rochester, Minnesota. The following are clarifications and additional details about eligibility and conference registration:
1) Membership in the GCMA Society is not a requirement for an award. Any non-member who receives an award will have the student non-member registration rates applied toward the total award amount of $600. The balance will be credited in the student's name at the Economy Inn in Rochester, MN.
2) Applicants for the award should wait to register until after the award decisions have been made. Those who apply for the award but are not selected will still be able to register at the early registration rates, if they register by March 31, 2000. Award decisions will be made by a selection committee of five officers of the GCMA Society. Applicants will be notified of the decisions by March 15, 2000.
These awards are being funded through a grant from The Whitaker Foundation, which provides support of conferences that enhance the field of biomedical engineering. Each student award of $600 will be used to cover the expense of registering for two tutorials, the conference, and a Saturday symposium. Award recipients will be selected on a competitive basis from among the pool of student applicants. Application is open to full-time and part-time students in biomedical engineering and other disciplines relevant to movement analysis. Factors in the selection process will include: motivation to attend the meeting (communicated through a statement on the award application); area of study (preference will be given to engineering students); membership in the GCMA Society; involvement in a movement analysis laboratory; level of participation in the conference (presenting or co-authoring a paper); and academic performance (as evidenced by grade point average).
The application form can be downloaded from the GCMA Society web site . Click on the link to "GCMA Society Student Conference Award Application" and follow the instructions for downloading the award application file. (The document in MS Word format is preferred.) Type the requested data directly into the downloaded file. Send the edited file as an e-mail attachment to: John_Holden@nih.gov (Use "GCMA student award application" as the Subject for all correspondence.) Print the edited file, obtain the requested signatures (student and advisor), and fax the form to John Holden at 301-480-9896. Both the electronic and signed copies must be submitted no later than February 28, 2000.
