Position: Biomechanics Lab Specialist/Manager
Department: Implant Performance Division, Biomechanics Laboratory
Reports to: Director, Implant Performance
Job Category: Full-time, Permanent
The Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory at Orthopaedic Hospital/UCLA is
recognized internationally for conducting state of the art research and
development involving biomaterials, joint replacement implants, hardware for
fixation of fractures and soft tissue injuries, and associated surgical
techniques and instrumentation.
Currently, the Biomechanics Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated
engineer for the Implant Performance Division. This individual will support
the principal investigator in planning, designing and conducting highly
technical and complex research experimentation, design and develop
mechanical test apparatuses and measurement techniques/instrumentation,
analyze research data and provide interpretation, contribute to the
development of research documentation, manage laboratory resources, and
supervise other employees (staff, students, residents and fellows) engaged
in laboratory research on a regular or project basis.
Requirements: Directly related education and/or experience in Biomechanics,
Biomedical Engineering or other R&D environment. Minimum education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Minimum experience: 2-5 years. Master's
degree, Ph.D. or other advanced graduate study in Mechanical Engineering,
Biomedical Engineering or related field preferred. Relevant graduate study
combined with experience may substitute for minimum experience. A
demonstrated interest in a Biomedical Engineering or Biomechanics related
career is essential. Advanced knowledge of computers, excellent written and
verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
