Dear Colleagues,
I have a student building a physical model of the knee (Femur and
Tibia) which will be motor controlled. We will use the model to
demonstrate knee movements to students and to test the accuracy of
motion analysis devices for Gait analysis.
However, we are having trouble sourcing information QUANTIFYING the
curved path traced by the instantaneous center during the gait cycle
locomotion (This has been termed Fick's curve in some general
literature). For an accurate model, the design has to feature dynamic
rolling and sliding in the joint; therefore we need to investigate
this curve and it's position in the sagittal plane of the femur.
I have searched and reviewed data via PubMed and ScienceDirect, but
while I have found reference to the path of the centre of rotation, I
have been unable to find QUANTITATIVE results.
Any information that you have on this topic that you feel would be of
benefit would be most gratefully received, and subsequently summarised
to the BIOMCH-L list.
