    Title: Laboratory Bioengineer

    This is a full-time position at the Neurological Sciences Institute (NSI)
    of Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. The
    Laboratory Bioengineer maintains and develops experimental hardware and
    software for the Human Posture Laboratory under the direction of Fay B.
    Horak, PhD, PT. Established in 1971, the Human Posture Laboratory is
    supported by several NIH grants to study neural control of balance and
    spatial orientation, effects of Parkinson's disease, vestibular disorders,
    and peripheral neuropathy on control of balance and the rehabilitation of
    balance disorders.

    The responsibilities include:

    1 Assisting the Systems Engineer with maintaining the laboratory's
    mechanical and electronic devices. These include a movable hydraulic force
    platform under computer control, a Motion Analysis kinematics recording
    system, an EMG amplification and recording system, force transducers, rate
    sensors, and accelerometers.

    2. Assisting with constructing, maintaining and repairing new experimental
    equipment for the study of human movement.

    3. Developing, maintaining and documenting Matlab programs for the Human
    Posture Laboratory, and assisting with the design and development of data
    analysis programs.

    4. Documenting electronic and other new equipment and maintaining software.

    This exciting opportunity will allow the Bioengineer to act as the main
    source of technical support in the Human Posture Laboratory. A BS or MS in
    engineering or science is required. Also required are familiarity with
    electronics, computers, and programming. Experience with Matlab
    programming, electronic circuitry, and motion analysis is preferable.
