ADVANCED AIR BAG TECHNOLOGY IN FRONTAL AND SIDE IMPACTS
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------
    June 27-28, 2000 - Marriott Hotel - Southfield, Michigan
Organizer - D.F. Huelke, PhD, Professor Emeritus, University of Michigan

The controversy surrounding the role of air bags in occupant protection,
despite their lifesaving characteristics, continues into the 21st century.
Injury events of the last several years particularly related to children,
small females and out of position occupants have precipitated new rulemaking
in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208. Countries outside the United
States have taken slightly different directions in air bag regulations.
Motor vehicle manufacturers worldwide have been challenged to comply with
regulations and the real world dilemmas in design and field performance of
    air bags.

This two day conference will focus on current and future technology and
regulations that offer the promise of improved occupant protection from air
bag systems. Presentations on the following topics will be made by
representatives of car companies, suppliers, government and research
    institutions, followed by audience discussion.
