  • Knee Forces

I am designing a test rig that will simulate weight bearing in the lower
extremity. In reviewing literature I have found useful equations that
give quadricep forces as a function of knee angle flexion. I still have
some questions that remain unanswered though:

In walking the ground to foot force is not constant, varying in its point
of application and sense. How does this create shear forces in the knee,
and what effect do these shear forces have?

Also, on a side note, does anyone know how far(mm) the patellar
ligament attaches to the tibia below the tibial plateau?

    Thank you,
