POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Motor Control/Motor Learning, and/or Motor Development
The Faculty of Kinesiology is seeking an outstanding scholar for a tenure
track position as an Assistant Professor with a specialty in Motor
Control/Motor Learning, and/or Motor Development.
The Faculty of Kinesiology is an interdisciplinary unit, with expertise
ranging across the spectrum of the study of human movement, from the
humanities and social sciences, through recreation and sport management,
outdoor recreation, to the biological, biochemical, and physical sciences.
The Faculty is aggressively positioning itself as a centre of scholarship
and research in the Atlantic Region. It has embarked on an active
recruiting process to create an enthusiastic cadre of teachers/researchers
in the Exercise and Sport Sciences. It is striving to support the work of
these scholars in their own specialities and also to encourage the
development of collaborative research and contract work with other members
of the Faculty as well as with members of other university and
extra-university units, such as the Institute for Biomedical Engineering,
the Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy, and the Chalmers
Regional Hospital. In response to growing graduate and undergraduate
enrollments, the Faculty is continuing to refine its Exercise/Sport Science
Program, with the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Master
of Science in Exercise/Sport Science. Further information about the Faculty

The Faculty is looking for a scholar to teach in the areas of motor
control/motor learning, and/or motor development, and to conduct research
in these (or allied) fields. A PhD is required, together with evidence of
independent research. Post-doctoral experience would be an asset. Duties
will include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels,
and supervising graduate students. Successful candidates will be expected
to compete for research grants and contracts to support their research
program and their graduate students.
Applicants should submit a covering letter of application, a curriculum
vitae and three letters of reference to Dr. Christopher Stevenson (as
below). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled;
however, the intention is to produce a preliminary short list for
interviews by July 15th, 2000, our desire is to fill the position for the
beginning of classes in either September 2000 or January 2001.
