In patients where meniscal cartilage has been torn from twisting
injuries or direct impact, it used to be the trend in medical treatment to
completely remove the entire meniscus rather than repair the damaged area.
My question is why this shift in procedure and treatment came about. What
factors were considered that caused orthopedic surgeons to forgo total
meniscal removal?
